Planned Downtime and Shift Cadence Adjustment
Wayfarer Infrastructure Update
We wanted to give everyone a heads-up on some upcoming infrastructure changes for Wayfarer.
We are currently in negotiations to relocate the physical server hardware to a new temporary hosting location. The new location includes fiber internet connectivity as well as existing battery backup infrastructure, which should provide a more stable environment overall for the server moving forward.
At this time, details are still being finalized, so some specifics are still TBD. However, once the move is scheduled, we expect the transition to result in approximately 6–12 hours of downtime at most while the server is physically transported, reconfigured, and tested at the new site.
We will provide more concrete scheduling information once negotiations and logistics are finalized.
Shift Cadence Adjustment
Additionally, we will be adjusting our round shift structure. We are planning to move away from the current 72-hour shift format in favor of a more consistent 1-2-2-2 day rotation. This is where monday is a 24 hour shift, and the remaining days are 2-day shifts.

The intent behind this change is to:
- Better balance the overall week pacing
- Reduce the extremely long persistence windows
- Ease away from the "Day 3 Slowdown" (Performance issues)
- Create more predictable maintenance and content deployment opportunities
- Use the shorter 24-hour shift as an opportunity for larger feature deployments and more impactful updates without disrupting multi-day persistence as heavily
