Quick Start Guide

Everything you need to know to start playing on Wayfarer 14.

This quick start guide will get you oriented with the basics so you can jump in, find your footing, and start shaping your own path without getting overwhelmed.

As time goes on, we'll complete more of this guide. If you've played on Frontier or other Frontier-adjacent forks, Refer to the "Coming from elsewhere?" section for what's different.

Don't rush in!

Some things are different from traditional gameplay loop of Frontier. We dont want to spoil what, but take it slow at first.

Expeditions

Please do not do expeds alone. If you die, there are no body saving features or mechanics on Wayfarer. Always bring a friend. Expeds are also slated for eventual removal.

Shift Duration

Shifts (Aka Rounds) are 72 hours unless otherwise noted. Remember to deposit money (spesos) into an ATM before shift end. Money persists between shifts. Ships, and inventory do not.

We have been adding more persistent features. If you have keepsakes like notes, or a named collar from someone, you can take advantage of the Safety Deposit Box system.

Disconnecting

Taking breaks is important. If you need to disconnect and intend to rejoin later, You can either sleep in a bed of a dorm on Dusk, or drag your character into a cryo chamber. You can safely disconnect and resume later. Please be considerate to other Wayfarers and undock your shuttle from Dusk to keep docking ports available.

If you have a ship, you may disconnect on your ship but be mindful of Asphyxia problems if your room is small. You dont want to die in your sleep.

  1. Source a plant from the plant vendor on Dusk
  2. Wrench the plant down right beside your bed
  3. Extra: Wrench down a O2 (or n2 if vox) in the room, set the release valve to the room atmospheric pressure and open the vale.

If you're familar with the Frontier gameplay loop, then you'll fit right in. Though you should be aware of some specific changes in our sector. Especially the changes to radio.
