Shift #112
Notable Stories
8 stories from this shift
As she woke up, she feels an emotional cocktail of dejection, regrets, and uncertainties (one of note being from a prior shift. A mothroach exited a vent and called her its mother. Then a geneticist turned them into a mothperson. Long story.) She's found herself feeling uncertain of the way she's lived her life. She feels like she's stuck in place making nothing, doing nothing, with failure after failure stacking up. She used to enjoy the job, the thanks she gets, and the knowledge that on some alerts, she was the only one available. Put simply, it's burnout.
A prolonged heart-to-heart with Dynamism PG-512 about these troubles soothes her, initially. But eventually an unrelated series of events involving the unannounced departure of a dear friend, and her failure to act on it, sends her spiralling back down a pit of inadequacies and self-doubt.
Meliae needs a long, long break. Alone ideally.
i love how i can just wear an ENTIRE OUTFIT of CONTRABAND and nobody gives a fuck.
// Wednesday was nice. Was late in the night and got a good crowd of people going while manning the kitchen. Made several new acquaintances and served a decent amount of food. Surprised myself considering I felt I was pretty rusty at servicework.
// Spent Thursday conversing with Jhrall at length about psionics, The Dark, metaphysical concepts, myths and legends. All for maybe several hours. Spoke of my work being a doctor, in the military, and the New Netherlands.
What wonderful company, the people of this... Sector... make for, mn?
But not all was fine in the world. Bluespace anomalies emerged on every ship in the sector, and a flesh anomaly manifested at Dusk. Myself, Milo, and the brave crew of the Lifeline saved everyone we could and fought back the anomaly.
Now, through a ritual I worked on with many others at the Omnichurch, we managed to get a response from the entity. It triggered a bluespace rift, causing us all to become host to bluespace anomalies. Stigma was torn apart by the violent energies...and all others there managed to dissipate it.
Except for me. My host anomaly has been stable since the ritual. I even now, as I go to rest, feel the connection. With the help of fellow Wayfarers, it's my hope that this connection will let us learn more about the entity, understand it, and appease it.
I did research for most of the shift, until the anomalies struck the entire sector. Then, I contined to do research...of my own. I collected all the anomaly cores I could, and eventually, the entity spoke to me...I decided with some other scientists to attempt to repeat this at the omnichurch.
And so, a few days later, we did. It was uneventful until Milo came along...a new vessel for the entity, one who heard the whispers. By his presence and some prayer we were able to get a response, at the cost of becoming hosts to bluespace anomalies ourselves. Most were cured, but Milo and I held to ours...his was more stable. Apparently, I was phased into a wall. I am now integrated with an MMI...for now.
Was contacted multiple times, at first taskings simple but made messy by situations, resulted in fighting entire squad of CGPs alone. Ended when Rek run out of bullets, had to try getting more. Failed. Long time in keepings over that.
Near shift end mysterious figure boarded Rek ship, almost killed at first. They sent Rek on mission to get Disk and gave us a suit and sword that made Rek really fast, truly blend within shadows. They made claimings of wanting to play to Rek strengths.
Near twenty of sector dwellers stood against friend Boss and Rek. Came out completings mission. He managed to actually get the disk while Rek killed many from shadows. They will likely not forgive what was done. Rek made a good ally though, hopefully we can help again.
We do not expect mercy from them anymore.
